Thanks for the comments, Cervator! And good to hear from you, SuperSnark! Is the best way to reach you here or a different channel? I think I'll leave this draft sitting here a few more days for comments / review, then do another pass and submit that version to the GSOC website.

I think that people can post proposals there after the opening date but before the closing date so that mentors can see and provide feedback, then students can rewrite and resubmit before the closing date.
