MCedit reads minecraft worlds, and allows external editing of them. as well as , in its own words:

"MCEdit was first created to allow players to preserve anything built with several old versions of Minecraft and take them forward into newer versions of the game. It also aims to be forward-compatible with future (or even modified) versions of Minecraft."

meaning we could then import a wealth of already existing minecraft structors, and worlds.

The program is open source, thus compatibilty with its formate shouldn't be to hard. We won't have to interact with any minecraft worlds or code, as MCedit does it for us.

Pinging @msteiger since he's done lots of related work on the WorldViewer

Compatibility with basic blocks probably wouldn't be too hard, but I'm not sure how you'd approach actual logic, like a chest. Anything that involves prefabs and such. But I suppose you might be able to import a base world if you wanted to.
