This is now in the main develop branch - started by ironchefpython a little ways back and finished up by Immortius. Some of @overdhose's minion stuff made it in that way too so it could get the input updates as well
https://github.com/MovingBlocks/Terasology/pull/252
This is mostly architectural tweaks behind the scenes, so nothing should look all that different. There's a console command "setupForAZERTY" now that'll add 'Z' for moving the player forward and 'Q' for moving backwards (in addition to normal keys, for now) so AZERTY keyboard users can play a little more easily now.
There has been some discussion on IRC now and then on this so I thought it should have a thread to share the news a bit more. Immortius mentioned a few todo items and ironchefpython was interested in maybe adding in some Gooey events or something this weekend
It should be a lot easier to tweak what keys do what now, so we can start adding proper entries for that on the options screen.
Other related GitHub issues: #214 and #251
Edit: Ping 0x0 who had also reported the AZERTY desire in the past on here
Zombie edit: Locked in favor for this thread
