Suggested Nostalgia mode

There has been a few different mentions on IRC about having a more minecraft-y experience for those that would like to relive that part of their life in a different setting. What would people like to see in this kind of a gameplay mode?

Even responding with confirmation of ideas you like would be useful.

Big Ideas:
  • Dangerous mobs (what kind?)
  • Combat (melee?, ranged?)
  • Predefined video settings that more closely mimic minecraft
  • Consistent low resolution block textures
  • Familiar key bindings

  • Jump height (and behavior? Repeat jump or not?)
  • Player walk speed
  • Specific tree types
  • Specific mineral finds
  • Empty starting inventory
  • Grid-based crafting
A lot of the relevant stuff we still need to build in general first (like combat) ... :)

Some of them are a fair bit of work (for example old school crafting). Probably questionable how much effort we should direct toward it, but if there is interest and volunteer effort I don't see too much trouble pursuing it as a side thing. Although maybe it would lead to some clone-y backlash. So it would be good to favor a few of our more unique gameplay concepts to a good level of maturity first.

This topic might get some more attention depending on MS plans for MC...
  • hunger
  • armor
  • MC world gen
I think that the overall look and feel of the world is quite characteristic. Having biomes with similar graphical assets, these remarkable big caves, and so on it would feel a lot more like MC.
