    Google Code-In 2016 - DONE!

As a final update for GCI we'll be sending @Rostyslav Zatserkovnyi (rzats) as our mentor representative for the GCI event over in Silicon Valley in June, where he should have a chance to meet our two winners @smsunarto and @Isaac (iojw), the latter of which also made it into an article about GCI...

    Suggested Maze World Gameplay

Just rediscovered this thread after doing the initial write-up at https://github.com/MovingBlocks/Terasology/issues/2775 for a GSOC item like this :D Very cool top graphic by the way!

Design Poll - name for a registered non-profit

Bit of a belated response from me as well here - would you like for us to try re-polling with Movingblocks in some flavor as an option, or will you be OK if we move forward with a Terasology entry? While the votes are favoring the Terasology Foundation I'll be the first to admit that such low...

Suggested Optional or supported modules for a module

Arise from the grave, O' ancient thread! ARISE! This has come up again from time to time since this thread was created in the Dev Portal. I just moved it to Suggestions to restart the discussion since we did have a relevant thread already. We even have the area partially improved, like an...

    Config, Context, and Security

Okay some more thoughts after some discussion with @manu3d on Slack about the impacts of internationalization on Config and such :) Led to some neato discoveries, although in the end I could be giving into the temptation of overly fanciful below. Ran across our Input Bindings/Settings in far...

    Reviving Leap Motion?

Belated heya :-) I just posted a GSOC 2017 thread: http://forum.terasology.org/threads/gsoc-2017-ideas-phase-dev-meeting-sat-jan-21st.1770/ I did most the Leap Motion stuff years back. I don't know if it'll at all be useful anymore. It is/was a GSOC item but at this point I'm not sure how...

    GSOC 2017 - finals & results - 10 projects!

Prizes for GCI 2016 haven't even been finalized yet, but there is no rest for the weary, it is time to start prep for GSOC 2017! The timeline has been posted, summarizing here below: Jan 19th - org apps open (dev meeting Jan 21st to discuss doable ideas) Feb 9th - org app deadline Feb 27th -...

Recap: Google Summer of Code with Terasology (and Google Code In!)

Yeah the task quantity is just there I think to narrow down the field to where it is at all possible to make evaluations. Since quality ultimately counts more than quantity if we had a handful of students that made just one or two massively impressive tasks it would be near impossible trying to...

Recap: Google Summer of Code with Terasology (and Google Code In!)

GCI 2017 is complete, as a great success! Only prize selection remains at this point, along with then the actual prizes. Announcements about that will come from Google on January 30th At the end we had 606 tasks completed (third highest org) by 138 students, with a total of 222 starting or...

    Cannot change strategy of configuration

You still have extra modules enabled (possibly stored from the last time you tried via command line). I can spot the "Throughout the Ages" world generator plus see "AnotherWorld" in the log snippet. Again though, better to submit the whole log, there is all kinds of nice diagnostic logging...

    Cannot change strategy of configuration

Weekend is good, there is no rush, we'll be here :-) You have picked starting with a pretty complex approach, and it may indeed be somewhat out of date. You're also running a command meant to launch a headless server from source including a pile of extra config :D What happens if you simply...

    Cannot change strategy of configuration

Interesting. Javaassist is related to our deep dark Java secrets, but doesn't often get noticed (all the magic tends to stay behind the curtains). Is there anything else higher in the log files? Sometimes it can be good to have the whole thing available, like attached to a post here or linked...

    Cannot change strategy of configuration

Yep most likely that's Gradle version level. Always use "gradlew" :-) I believe Gradle 3 breaks with some of our existing edge cases for functionality. Something we need to update before we can upgrade.

    Config, Context, and Security

So we've had some discussion lately on IRC, on issues, on Slack, and so on. It tends to get mixed up into a few related but maybe segregated topics, then gets too far off track or complex to follow easily. Thought I'd try to outline it here in a forum thread and let @manu3d also outline his...

Suggested A New Idea for a Module: Battle Bots

Love it :-) I remember playing with Robocode years and years ago. Heck I ran a small Java User Group for a little while and a couple times we used Robocode to hand out door prizes - fittingly full Ultimate licenses to IntelliJ! That was a decade ago ;-) I think this framework could actually be...

Suggested A New Idea for a Module: (Modded) Soccer

Very nicely written up, and great concept! I really want to see this and we already have most the pieces. Somebody even played with a scoreboard at one point. Tossed some ideas on IRC on possibly using impulses to control the ball, quoted for reference:

Recap: Google Summer of Code with Terasology (and Google Code In!)

Oh boy have times been busy lately. The "Hell Week" concept with GCI seems to have lasted a full three weeks. On day one of Week 4 it was almost quiet in comparison. We still have a ton of activity and tasks pile on in waves that can get back up to around 10 pending review at times which can...

    Google Code-In 2016 - DONE!

Been so busy reviewing tasks and related stuff that there's little to no time actually announcing updates :D As a general note to all our students thanks to @xtariq's work on some of the central GCI content modules for tasks (Cooking, Equipment, Potions, and lately Smithing) we now have a new...

    Java AWT Whitelist

Thanks! Added a link to this thread from the issue so we have the research available when somebody can get around to preparing a PR to take AWT off the whitelist. Simply being off the whitelist is then blacklisted by default, so we don't need to go out of the way to suppress the killer Robots...

    Helping a friend with Terasology

Great! :-) I had made a wiki page with more details on Gradle in the past, but then deleted it in the great purge meant to streamline and simplify the engine wiki. Gradle itself has an awesome documentation site. There is https://github.com/MovingBlocks/Terasology/wiki/Codebase-Structure which...
