Hey guys.
As I introduced myself already I thought it would be great to have a little thread where I can post some content I did.

I just finished working on a small idea for the night, so tell me what you think about it. I'm not 100% happy about it and I may change some things during the next days.

I like it! There's an odd set of sounds right around 0:46 that might not fit in (at least as per my untrained ears). Favorite part is the 23 or so seconds right before that :)

Incidentally, I know there's a bunch more tracks I need to review, but argh time

Cervator I think it sounds weird because our ear is expecting another bar to set in, but there is an unexpected break. I could fix that, but I think it's ok.

I think I'm going to work on the cave theme now because I love to play around with dark and creepy atmospheres. I will provide a link to some creepy ideas as soon as I have some :)

The little howling in the background of creepy caves is nice. Could you emphasize this a bit? :)

I emphasized it a little bit and brought in some other ambient sounds.

I'm not quite sure what mood you imagined for the caves, is it ok that they sound creepy?

Edit:
I decided to completely restart the night theme and do something more relaxing. The night should be quiet and sad.

The new theme is much longer because I thought it would be great if you don't hear any kind of looping during the night or day. If you make your day/night span exactly 6 minutes long, it should fit quite good :)

I would love to hear your opinions.

The night theme is terrific. :O
The creepy caves theme is... Creepy xD
You should do a "mining theme". 'cause I won't go mining with that music! Too scary for me! ;)

Cave piece sounds great, I love the background :D

Now we need to get a hook for cave music. Then next we need to take it a step further and trigger a "startle" music / sound effect as the player turns and suddenly faces a monster, then use that as a transition into a more hectic combat piece! I think we could do that?

Also love the night piece :)

Here's another idea for more stuff - one angle is the situational one (cave, night, reaching the crest of a valley to look inside for the first time ever, combat, etc), how about a cultural angle? Down the road I hope to see multiple intelligent species inside the game, each with their own little villages and such. How about trying to come up with something that fits races like that? Although admittedly that might require alternative instruments?

There's a rich background of inspiration for some of the typical races - elves, dwarves, medieval humans, orcs, etc. Bound to be other ideas too. Timing of the music would likely be tied to entering or closing in on villages? Or having caravans from said race arrive at your place.

Awesome sound this night music :O

For my taste the piano in the dark theme is a bit too high and dominant. I closed my eyes while watching and thought of the nether world with orc fortress you described and the piano was like some sunrays peaking through the clouds; disturbing the darkness. (just in the moment when the evil fortress comes into your field of view - meaning after the intro)
I hope my thoughts won't disturb you too much, just describing what I saw ;)

Excellent! At 5-6 hours to that level of polish? Doesn't seem bad at all :)

I can somewhat concur with Nym Traveel on the piano, the start had a more sinister feel to it with the bits of drums and what not. The piano is still great, and fits pretty well anyway, but orcs and pianos... :pinkiehappy:

On the other hand, maybe the presence of some piano in every piece brings a certain consistent style to bind them all together?

I'm running those pieces in my usual playlist now, not just to test :D

Beautiful piece, you're quite talented. Maybe the percusions part could be a little lighter? I'm not sure in what way :p

Very nice! I'd agree that the drums stick out a little bit, but for some reason they make me imagine the piece in setting like a mountainous dwarven stronghold. Although at the same time mostly outside, maybe flying around to observe nature around the stronghold with the drums flowing in as the camera gets close to the entrance or even flies through it and back out.

I did a little synthesizer test today and made a song out of my theoretical knowledge about synthesizers. I thought it would be great to test out other genres as well :)

http://soundcloud.com/chriskoebke/low-pass

All synthesizers you can hear in the song are made by me. I tried to do it as electronical as I could, but some orchestral elements are still used :p

I know, it is no terasology related song, but I hope it's ok. If not, feel free to just delete my post :3
