Backlogged Planet Mod

If something like this youtube video was integrated into Terasology, It would be a very unique and interesting concept. Would this be possible? Here are some more specific details:

  • World Generation: Possibly, two worlds would be automatically generated: The home planet, and the moon planet (Which would look like a moon)
  • Planet Creation: Using commands, new planets could be created. All of which would orbit around the home planet
  • Rendering Technique: An image possibly would be generated from the viewpoint of the home planet that would actually be rendered in the sky as the stars and moon pass by. This would allow actually seeing the planet without rendering its vertices. The same type of image would be generated of the home planet for when you are on the moon.
  • World Size: The world size would be finite. When the edge of the world is reached you would continue to the other side of the world.
  • Space Travel: As you fly higher in the air, some fisheye shader would be applied to make the world round. When you are within block limit, the world/horizon would still be flat like normal
  • Survival: In survival where flying is unavailable, some type of spaceship/transporter could be crafted. (Or a command could be used to travel to other planets)
  • Light and Shadow: Different planets could be setup as the bases for the different teams (the planets would probably be much smaller; Just large enough for a large base). Then you could "invade" the other team's planet.
This would be a very unique feature that would furthermore differentiate Terasology from other voxel games like Minecraft. Obviously it would be a huge task, but if possible, I believe it would be of great value.

Space and planetoids have definitely come up, and Immortius has an old demo floating around of a large sphere made up by slightly warped blocks. We also talked about the idea of truly cubic planets with gravity just adjusting accordingly (there's a neat MC mod like that too)

Probably will end up getting worked when we embark on supporting multiple worlds. I would love nothing more than being able to see a few moons in the sky and know they're actual visitable planets :D

Planetary Annihilation has a very neat solar system creation tool, although it struggles mightily with more than just a few planetary bodies. The gravity calculations in there are pretty involved.

World size/shape has also come up and there are some possible strategies there

All good ideas and nice added details, now we just need the code! :scootangel:
