Birthdays, Potential, and Direction, oh my!

Time for another big update! This one is a little more philosophical in nature, looking at the big picture in addition to bits of recent stuff :) Birthdays make for good reflection Other voxel games make for good inspiration Milestone completions make for good organizing Badger badger badger...

    Javascript Modding API

The usual argument is that two languages will spread an equivalent amount of effort more widely than a single language - as in, we wouldn't get as far or get as nice addons if we're supporting more than one language. Personally I'm wondering if it would be "okay" to stick with JVM-compatible...

    Archived Weired forum bug

Did you bookmark a specific page? If I leave the forum open in a Firefox tab, then come back to it next day after a restart I may get a Xenforo error on that tab looking at Inbox or Alerts. I haven't gotten any outright page not found errors though. Is it a browser error or a Xenforo error?

    Request Intro 3D Fonts

That's a nice way of doing the intro - is it harder to splice in though? Right now my video editing sadly amounts to deleting frames out of Windows Movie Maker ... :raritycry:

How to configure Terasology for Netbeans?

Elijah C. Menifee - nice! Thanks for that research and effort, we'd be thrilled to see more, be it fancy Gradle/NB stuff or more useful unit tests :-)

    Request Intro 3D Fonts

Nice :-) It looks very spiffy from a technological perspective, and it is closer than the rounded font, but there's something that still just doesn't connect it to Terasology for me. Not sure what it is - maybe the high tech / high detail vs low detail retro style? The shininess / mirrored...

    Music-making livestream?

Saturday sometime - I should be available most the time, so counting time zones that's from mid-afternoon till evening Euro time. Sunday is a little more sketchy :-)

    Archived Poll: Artistic style

Yeah Terasology doesn't use any sort of weird format for models or anything - although block shapes are a little custom, but barely so if you know a bit of modelling :-)

Inactive My thoughts on realistic water

The trouble there again is something like rivers. If you aim for a world where water truly moves then you ideally need to have the whole river loaded at all times. If the source for a river isn't loaded, simulating its second half would leave it to run dry :-( I didn't outright ask them for...

    Archived Poll: Artistic style

What's "Techne" ? In a broad sense "Minecraft style" is in the same ballpark as what we'll be aiming for. Probably with a bit more open potential with detail, but still blocky. Look around here in the art forum for some more examples. Some are rather different from others or the...

    Project Modding Arc

Played around with it a fair bit more today and it looks really nice and handles well  I fixed a few minor namespace bugs (books & potions) just now along with a benign pathing error that was getting logged - here's for hoping I didn't break anything. It still seems quirky as all out to...

    Request Intro 3D Fonts

Well, whatever the magic trick is that you've figured out that adds the 3D effect to the font :-)

    Request Intro 3D Fonts

Qbicle might work better if it got modeled naturally in 3D rather than with a short-cut gadget, but that's a lot more work :) Our logo "font" could work too for matching, or we could update the logo sometime. In-game font differs as well. Eventually we might want all of them to match...

    Music-making livestream?

Quality seems fine to me, tools are nice and clear, although yeah maybe mic placement can be improved slightly :-) The site makes me a little suspicious about how nagging they're going to be - can't view a stream without signing up for an account, unless the host has a paying account. I'll...

Inactive My thoughts on realistic water

I actually asked them about that already :-) But alas, they aren't actively working on it or interested in collaborating with it since they're focusing on BR. My understanding is that it was relatively straight forward (if detailed and neat) anyway as it was limited to a very finite simulation...

    Archived Friendly dragons

In all honesty: Dragons are hard. They're big, fancy, and usually complex one way or the other. I could see them (or other big lizards) show up later as eager contributors will it, and I'd love to see them, but I'm not going to hold my breath in the short to mid-term :-)

Alas, no, just trying to sort through some of the assorted reminders I've got floating all over the place :cowbell:

    Cervator's work thread

Been updating my metrics dutifully once a day since I started and the graph is looking like a good and proper graph now. It sure isn't taking a downwards tumble as much as I had hoped though ;-) Added a few more items to my top post, but still having trouble finding the time to even do that...

    Archived Friendly dragons

Heya Darkhog - I'd like to see "advanced" dragons too :-) The reputation/karma stuff you mention should probably be available as a general system that can be applied to different creatures as desired. Having something like that is a given for any sort of advanced creature system (ethics and...

    Request Intro 3D Fonts

I like the last one the best, plain "Block", but Transuranium is also nice (the 'G' just goes weird). The original Qbicle font is nice, but the 3Dficiation sort of does weird things to it.
